Dozens of Alexander residents township outside Johannesburg joined the Patriotic Alliance (PA), saying they were doing so following years of empty promises.
Collen Mamabolo speaking on behalf of residents said most of the residents who joined the party on Tuesday were from Herman Mashaba’s Action SA.
He said since last year’s local government elections, it was clear that they supported a wrong party led by Mashaba.
Welcoming the residents PA deputy president Kenny Kunene said his party is home to everyone, and it will always defend the most vulnerable in society.
“Our priority is to create jobs, improve the living conditions of our people as we are currently doing in the Central Karoo District, Western Cape,” said Kunene.
He said community members must feel free to call PA councilors any time to ask for help.
Residents asked the party to intervene on a number of issues including ensuring that no illegal immigrants stays in RDP houses, and, that South Africans must be prioritised in the provision of basic services.
Meanwhile, PA President Gayton McKenzie, who was recently elected executive mayor of Central Karoo District, told a gathering of business people and investors at the weekend that the district municipality would create condusive environment for businesses to invest in the Central Karoo.
He added that plans were in place to ensure that Central Karoo was energy efficient.
The Central Karoo District has already made inroads towards the elimination of the bucket toilet system as priority number one, as well as creating 1200 jobs with the intervention of businesses.
This is a small thing and I will keep on recruiting ActionSa members in Alex until Mashaba suffers from chest pains
