Media personality Bonang Matheba popularly know as “Queen B” causes an uproar on Twitter as she trends for allegedly being “ muscled out of her sparkling wine brand “The House of BNG”
The “Being Bonang” reality star announced last Tuesday that she terminated her contract with the management group. Opening a space on Twitter she announced on an audio stream.
“So today I wish to share with you very disturbing news. Over the past few years, I’ve been in a relationship with a management group to represent my brand.
“I put my trust in them and gave them stewardship over brand Bonang to build and support overall mediums including entertainment, fashion, and entrepreneurship.”
“Today I announce that I’ve terminated that contract and they no longer represent me or any of my business ventures”
The management in question @CSAglobal_ fired back on Twitter.
“Ms. Matheba was currently in breach of multiple contracts with various clients as she has been derelict to these brands and indeed her own for the past six months”
“We are currently awaiting a response from Bonang’s lawyers on legal letters already sent” continued,” CSA Global.
Twittersphere was buzzing with many of her supporters urging Influencers like Bonang Matheba who are brand ambassadors not to create an impression that they own products.
Many of her followers were reminded of a Tweet from Ntsiki Mazwai who received a lot of backlash from Bonangs fans
“Believing Bonang owned the wine was like believing she owned Revlon. She is just a marketing gimmick to sell these products and the owner”
In an interview with Times Live, Bonang confirmed that the fight was indeed between her and CSA over her sparkling wine brand.
She said some wisdom earned from the lessons she learnt the hard way about dealing with agencies.
“Creatives and talents and business start up’s and young people entering the entertainment, media and those entering business must acquire knowledge and have solid checks and balances when dealing with agencies that represent you and your brand.”
“Get every proposal or agreement checked by lawyers.”
She advised that people should hire their own independent lawyers and other experts so that they don’t get the agency to help with reviewing their business proposals.
Businessman and Patriotic Alliance president Gayton McKenzie entered the thread and advised: “One should not be in business because of ownership but because of profit. Sometimes ownership can be a burden. You can make more money sometimes not being the owner of a product.”
Added McKenzie: “Bonang took the zero risk route which is smart and easy to exit because business is about profit, Amen.”
